What are we looking for?
As the Financial Crime Operations Manager, you will oversee a team responsible for managing and mitigating financial crime risks across the organisation. Your role will be central to driving operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices related to fraud, scams, AML, KYC, and suspicious activities. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership, compliance teams, and other departments to ensure that our financial crime operations remain robust and effective in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
About the role
Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial crime analysts and investigators responsible for fraud operations, scams, AML, KYC, SMRs, and mule account monitoring.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to enhance team capabilities and foster a high-performance culture.
- Ensure effective workload management and prioritisation of cases to maintain optimal operational performance.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the financial crime team, ensuring efficient handling of fraud cases, scam reports, AML compliance activities, and suspicious activity reports.
- Monitor key operational metrics and ensure targets are met while maintaining high standards of compliance and customer service.
- Implement and optimise operational procedures and workflows to ensure streamlined operations.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, including but not limited to AML, KYC, fraud prevention, and reporting obligations.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of SMRs in line with regulatory deadlines and expectations.
- Maintain a strong understanding of emerging financial crime risks and trends to proactively mitigate potential threats to the bank and its members.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address regulatory inquiries and audits related to financial crime.
Fraud, Scam, and AML Expertise:
- Lead the investigation of complex fraud cases, scams, and money laundering activities, ensuring that all incidents are thoroughly documented and reported.
- Review and analyse patterns of suspicious activity to identify potential vulnerabilities in systems and processes.
- Work closely with external authorities (e.g., law enforcement, regulatory bodies) as necessary to resolve investigations and mitigate risks.
Technology and Systems Management:
- Leverage financial crime detection systems, tools, and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Support the implementation of new systems and enhancements, ensuring they align with the bank’s needs and regulatory obligations.
- Provide technical and operational input during system upgrades or troubleshooting.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management regarding fraud, scam, AML, and KYC operations, highlighting trends, risks, and compliance status.
- Analyse data to identify patterns and insights that can improve fraud prevention, AML detection, and overall operational performance.
About you
- Extensive experience in financial crime operations, with a strong focus on fraud management, AML, scams, KYC, and related regulatory requirements. Previous Operational leadership experience is a must.
- Solid understanding of financial crime prevention tools and technologies, as well as the latest regulatory changes affecting financial crime operations.
- In-depth knowledge of fraud detection and prevention, scams, anti-money laundering (AML), KYC, and Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs).
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team management skills, with a proven ability to drive operational success.
- Proficient in using financial crime detection systems, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with reporting tools and techniques for tracking performance metrics and compliance.
- Strong communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to respond quickly to changing priorities and emerging risks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and make informed decisions quickly.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
